At a first glance „The Novel S” is a simple love story. However, apart from the passions of love, in this book Nikolai Tabakov subtly discusses issues about the nature of the artist. The main character is a writer, who is faced with the choice to stay unnoticed and live in a small remote village, but is satisfied with his works or to get out on the big scene and become famous, but compromises his artistic autonomy. Still, that would be an oversimplification of the book because here the author interweaves a series of complex and sometimes contradictory feelings and actions, which keeps the characters vivid and somehow alive.
